British scientists have discovered that a common gene is linked to aging, immunity and disease resistance.
The find could open up new ways to treat both aging and diseases, a study conducted by Danish scientists suggested that half the babies born in the richer parts of the world today would live to be over one-hundred.
British scientists studying the genetics of aging said on Thursday that experiments on laboratory worms showed that a specific gene is strongly linked to lifespan, immunity and disease resistance.

So, there is a vitality gene that controls not only aging but disease resistance as well. I guess that makes sense. Though isn't finding a way around it a little self-defeating... the world is supposed to be over-populated, the natural resources are running low and, as pointed out in the article, half of the babies born today in "the rich world" will live to 100. Sounds a little inane to make people live even longer.... unless they can figure out not just lengthening life-span, but youth as well.

Argh, not this again. The whole "over-populated" theory has already been debunked countless of times... Well, I did remember hearing that, if given one acre of land each, the entire world's population could live in Australia... But more people is more Urban Sprawl.

Life and death have always been linked in us, really. I mean, when soldiers get out of a dangerous situation, one of the first things they seem to experience is the increased need to find someone to go behind a bush with. . . so, aging and immunity would probably be linked.
