Sometimes compared to the Loch Ness Monster due to its mysterious nature the giant earthworm has finally been found.
It was said to smell of lillies and spit at its predators however the newly discovered giant earthworm found in the prairie fields of North America has turned out to be something of a letdown in that it does neither of these things and isn't even actually that large.
It’s an earthworm so mysterious, people compare it to the Loch Ness Monster. Rarely sighted since the 1980’s, the giant Palouse earthworm was said to grow almost three feet long, smell like lilies, and spit at predators.

When I read the title, for a moment I thought the Mongolian Death Worm was actually found. Haha. Now thats what I was thinking,I was hopeing that someone took a picture of it attacking someone or something and it was trapped or captured. Now that would of been something.

Three feet long huh? Hmmm...We throw worms that small back . The largest native Australian worm is the giant Gippsland earthworm. It normally has a length of about 2 to 3 meters, (6.5 to 10 feet), and is about 2cm, (0.8 inches), in diameter. The longest Gippsland earthworm on record was 4 m, (13 feet), long. Send me some.we can raise them and sell them for a profit.and send some to the Zoos here in the U.S. 50/50.Just think of the fishermen that would by them by the dozen...$$$$$$$.

Eeek! What does it spit? Oh yucky! If I found that in MY garden I would faint! It was found not to spit, and it wasnt that long and it smelled like...well a worm.I think your safe.Heck if I found something like that it would wind up on a fishing hook .

I live in the Palouse area and this was in the paper here when they found it. It's not that rare, but it hasn't been seen as often as it once was. They used to be more abundant and be found in a lot of the northwest. Now they are few and far between. And I agree, when you hear giant earthworm and this is all you see it's pretty dissapointing.

Well, now there are TWO storied animals supposedly named after the Palouse region of southeastern Washington state: worms, and the Apaloosa horse. At least, when it comes to the Apaloosa horse, that's the story. Apaloosa horses are noted for having a number of spots on their rump. They were a favorite horse of the Nez Perce Indians long ago, and still are today. I attended a Nez Perce wedding about 13 years ago. The father of the groom presented her with an Apaloosa horse, as part of the potlatch that followed the Native American ceremony. Prior to the Indian wedding ceremony, they were marrie... [More]

Hah, nice. A slap to the face of skeptics and loons alike. "OMG THERES A GIANT EARTHWORM THAT SMELLS LIKE FLOWERS AND SPITS" "NO THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE HUMANS KNOW EVERYTHING!" "Uh... There is a giant earthworm... Except it doesn't smell like flower or spit at all..."
