Amateur rocket to send humans in to space

The world's first amateur rocket designed to carry humans in to space has been developed in Denmark.
The project is headed by Kristian von Bengtson and Peter Madsen and the rocket is due to be tested on August 30th, if successful another test flight will be conducted with a human on board.
It might not look much. In fact, it looks practically suicidal. But two Danish inventors hope to launch the world’s first amateur-built rocket for human space travel. The homemade rocket is the brainchild of Danish firm Copenhagen Suborbitals, headed by Kristian von Bengtson and Peter Madsen.

I don't think that is the first...I made my own rocket when I was about 7 or so...it was a washing machine box, a couple rolls of masking tape, and old fishbowl and an old AM-FM radio...It could seat two...I worried about the spaceworthiness of the vehicle when a random rainstorm made it collapse...but otherwise it was well used.

Didn't someone build his own aircraft that took him to what is technically considered outer-space a few years ago?

Didn't someone build his own aircraft that took him to what is technically considered outer-space a few years ago? Yes, but I suspect that Burt Rutan would not take kindly to himself or his company, Scaled Composites, being referred to as amateurs. Rutan and his company designed and built the SpaceShipOne vehicle and it's White Knight carrier aircraft. In 2004 SpaceShipOne made 3 flights exceeding 100 km altitude (the official point at which space starts) and in doing so won the Ansari X-prize of $10 million for the first privately funded, privately designed and privately built vehicle to reac... it looked kinda small for two people. Doesn't it just. I don't think comfort was the first priority when they designed this vehicle. I have no doubt that they can launch this thing to 100 km altitude, it's whether they can land it without injuring the occupants that worries me.

I'm getting claustrophobic just looking at it.

I must say, I do hope the testing program is a little more thorough than they make it sound. "the rocket is due to be tested on August 30th, if successful another test flight will be conducted with a human on board." "Well, it made it back in one piece... mostly. ok, Bud, in you get."
