A rare white elephant captured in Burma is being hailed as a positive omen by the country's media.
Only 5 white elephants have been caught in ten years, the capture of this one is being construed as a positive sign and an indication that the people will lead peaceful lives and enjoy greater prosperity for some time to come.
Burma's state-controlled media hailed the capture of a rare white elephant as a positive omen for forthcoming elections, the first balloting in two decades in the military-ruled country.

If it means no war in the country, then why not adopt the elephant? I think it's a better solution then the latter. Although, it's pretty ambiguous. edit: typo edit, edit: damn edit button!

Who really knows what the animal wants though. A "wild" life means a struggle for survival. An animal like this will be treated very well, it'll always have food, medical attention, proper shelter and probably eventually given a mate. It'll surely live far longer with anything it could need than it would in the wild. What else could an animal want with life? An animal doesn't 'want' like that, though. It doesn't understand what's going on around it. Instinct will tell it that the pampering will end at some point, and it'll have to 'go back' to being wild.

I agree with Cetacea, too. A gilded cage is none the less a cage. If you want the love of Mother Earth and her protection, protect the elephants and the habitats they live in.

Well we, humans, are animals as well, and we wants things, we understand whats going on around us(to some extent at least), so how do you know other animals dont have similar feelings and/or thoughts?
