Taking the idea of panspermia one step further - could dead alien microbes have spread life to the Earth ?
Astronomer Paul Wesson has suggested that deceased alien microbes could still have spread life to the Earth from elsewhere in the universe via a process he calls necropanspermia.
Scientists have speculated that life could have come to Earth from space — a notion called panspermia — since the 1870s, when Lord Kelvin suggested microbes could have ridden here on a comet or meteor.

I consider myself very open-minded. However, the notion that a piece of the building block of life was a dead alien microbe is a bit laughable. Although this article is just a theory and there is very little fact, if at all. There are more credible theories out there that make more sense and even have some evidence to back up those claims. Yet, they are still theories. Now, I may be proven wrong in the future and I will be the first person to admit if I am. Until that day, I will continue to look at the facts. Not some hairbrained idea that we owe our existence to dead alien single-celled orga... [More]

it is only a theory and has possible facts butthat's only a possiblity.... there also had to be other factors in this thoery as well... i agree with professor buzzkill and farandaway... but, it is fact that microbes such as bacteria have been known to survive explosions in space, radiation and the extreme heat and pressure of entering earth's atmosphere... there isalso the possibility of random mutation with the cells wilst they were in space due to the radiation, and if you think about the movie evolution there are some theories that seem plausable... i gues what i am saying is that life coul... cockroaches can. How did cockroaches get this reputation? Sure, they survive radiation better than we do - but they curl up and die at doses of radiation than dont even bother other insects. The Tardigrada however, is one tough mother... Tardigrades are able to survive in extreme environments that would kill almost any other animal. Some can survive temperatures of −273 °C (−459.400 °F), close to absolute zero, temperatures as high as 151 °C (304 °F), 1,000 times more radiation than other animals, and almost a decade without water. In September 2007, tardigrades were taken into low Ear... [More]
