A 45-year-old gas worker has discovered four new planets from home in his own spare time.
Amateur astronomer Peter Jalowiczor was ecstatic to have made the discovery, the process involved spending many hours examining measurements released by astronomers and applying a technique known as doppler spectroscopy. "I look for faint changes in stars' behaviours that can only be caused by a planet or planets orbiting about them," he said.
An amateur astronomer is over the moon after discovering four new planets in his spare time at home. Peter Jalowiczor, 45, has never owned a telescope but still managed to provide scientists with enough information to establish the existence of four gaseous orbs outside the solar system.

What a dude. I wonder if he gets to name them? I would love to name a planet...it would be called "Planet kick the s**t out of Earth" or Pandora

He did it the same way the professionals do. Analyzing minor changes in what we do have information on to determine if it's being affected by something nearby that we don't have information on. Like the gravitational pull of another celestial body passing by every so often. Around the planets we do have evidence of there's likely millions of other planets we don't have evidence of. Simply because it takes sitting down and monitoring minor changes for long periods like this guy has done to find them.

hire this man nasa what can he do with a million dolar telescope Using just two home computers, he spent night after night analysing thousands of space measurements released by astronomers at the Santa Cruz-based university in 2005. Experts hoped that by making the data - which had been collected over decades - public would invite the possibility of amateur astronomers making findings of their own. Read the article, please.

Well I say well done to him, just shows you don't have to bend over and pay tuition fees to make a positive impact on science!
