Synthetic blood made from cow plasma brings Australian woman back from the brink of death.
After being in a horrible car wreck that left her with a damaged spinal cord, collapsed lung, fractured skull and other traumatic injuries one woman is alive still thanks to the first synthetic blood created from cow plasma. In this case the woman's religion forbade regular blood transfusions meaning that the synthetic blood was her only option.
A synthetic blood substitute is something of a holy grail in medical research. Many potential synthetics have been tried--DARPA has even put a blood substitute before the FDA--but most have been disappointingly ineffective. So it’s pretty significant that an experimental synthetic blood substitute derived from cow plasma has brought an Australian woman back from the brink of death.
