Australia to remove "BC" from dates

In a move towards political correctness Australia is removing biblical references from dates.
The new date system will replace BC ( Before Christ ) with BCE ( Before Common Era ) and AD ( Anno Domini ) with CE ( Common Era ). Critics have slammed the change, the Archbishop of Sydney has called it out as an "‘intellectually absurd attempt to write Christ out of human history."
The changes, introduced by the government, were supposed to be pushed through next year, but have been delayed by the row. The terms CE and BCE have been popularised in academic and scientific publications.

PA Two things I'd like to comment upon, even if your remarks were directed to Tiggs. First, Zeus is not based on a historical figure. Affirmatively, he is based on the Proto Indo-European weather god, who is much older than Zeus. Negatively, he is not protrayed as a human being. Apart from his infancy, he didn't spend long stretches of time on the inhabited Earth. He was born on Earth because his mother sought refuge in a cave, to avoid his father and his father's minions, who wanted to kill the baby. He was conceived outside of time and space. Zeus is not, in other words, Krishna, who dwelt o... [More]

Okay... Okay... we should all support a global effort to rewrite history and texts to change BC to BCE. Because the quality of our lives will improve in so many ways thereafter. Now that world hunger and intergalactic travel has been conquered.

Actually they'll just be following the scientific and historical community on this particular regard. As far as I'm aware though, the scientific and historical communities don't use BCE/CE either. My brother was a history graduate and they always used BC/AD and in my science lectures at uni, we either use that or the before present system (so 65Ma for extinction of the dinosaurs etc.). BP's only really good for pre-history though. As has been pointed out, if we know an exact date, it would change every year. This year, the norman conquest would have happened in 945a, next year, it'd be 946a. E... [More]

I'm fine with BCE and ACE. That makes much more sense to me actually than trying to date to the incorrect birth date of a supposedly holy man who died 2000 years ago. Being on the same calendar world wide would simplify things and religion shouldn't really play into it, what date system we use today. That being said my BFF's and I (who are all rabid Byron fanatics) have decided we prefer BLB (Before Lord Byron) and ALB (After Lord Byron) instead, grin. We think the mad, bad poet deserves to be venerated in such a fashion and that he would likely approve of the change.

I've been using BCE and CE for many years in anthropology and biology. The average person does need to differentiate between the two anyway. I prefer BCE/CE as I am not a believer of Jesus, but I can still only conclude with; Who cares?

LOL!!! wow who knew that changing a few letters would create the next world war?? Im Australian and we are an extremely diverese country and all come from different walks of life, and for the record...we arnt dumb or stupid. Its not hard to remember everyone here seems to be doing a great job of remembering the terms? The largest problem with the world today is Religon. the fact that i have friends that are muslim, jew, hindu and aboriginal cultured is a damn good reason to cater for all walks of life and not just when the catholics decided to push upon us their beliefs. isnt the whole idea of...
