The Agta Negritos people have had to combat attacks from huge reticulated pythons for years.
The hunter gatherer tribes themselves are criticially endangered due to colonists, mining companies and other industries pushing their ancient way of life to near extinction on Luzon Island. What came as a surprise however was the fact that the hunter gatherers of the tribe are attacked by enormous pythons on a regular basis, with the huge snakes growing up to 28ft in length. 26% of all the men in the tribe reported being attacked by a snake at one time or another and have scars to prove it.
Humans have an ambivalent relationship with snakes. The legless reptiles are often feared and reviled, becoming stand-ins for the Devil and movie monster characters; yet many people have grown to love snakes, raising large, even dangerous, specimens as pets.
