Mirko Curti found more than be bargained for after chasing his cat through the streets of his village.
The escaped feline had scarpered through the streets with its owner close behind when it managed to crawl in to an opening on the side of a cliff that had been exposed due to recent heavy rain. When Curti went inside he discovered that the cat had found shelter inside an ancient Roman burial chamber complete with urns and piles of bones.
Archaologists believe the site dates back to somewhere between the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. Several other similar sites have been unearthed in recent times due to excess rainfall, but this was the only one to have been discovered by a common household cat.
Mirko Curti was chasing his cat through the streets of his village on Tuesday night when the cat inadvertently discovered a set of ancient Roman ruins.
