Schoolboy finds bomb with metal detector

Digging in the ground he uncovered a mud-caked metal capsule which he took back home and washed to see what it was. His parents soon became suspicious however when the initially innocuous device revealed itself to be disconcertingly bomb-shaped.

Shortly afterwards the police and a bomb disposal unit has been called to the house, it turned out that what Sonny had discovered was an old World War II practice bomb. "We are dumbfounded that he discovered this on his first go," said his mother. "It was caked in mud and Jem just thought it was a lump of metal and took it home."
