Thieves steal entire bridge in Turkey

Villagers in the country's Kocaeli province were left baffled after a nearby bridge totally disappeared.
The 25m, 22-ton bridge provided a safe crossing over a creek that separated local homes from orchards on the other side, yet on Monday puzzled residents discovered that the entire thing had vanished in to thin air. Authorities soon determined that the bridge had been cut in to pieces and loaded on to the back of a truck by thieves who hoped to sell it as scrap metal.

Residents expressed their frustration and disbelief over the incident as police vowed to launch an investigation in an effort to catch those responsible. Local man Mustafa Karakas was particularly unhappy about the theft - "now we have to take our socks off and cross the creek," he said.
In a most unusual incident thieves on Monday stole an entire bridge, apparently for its scrap metal, in the western province of Kocaeli.

Metal theft is a big problem here in the UK too. So much so that they have now changed the law so you can't just weight it in for cash any more. Even grave plaques and memorials have been stolen, which is just low.

So, 22 tons was loaded onto a truck in one night? Pfft, I dunno what it could be but no way even a large group of people could do this.

I keep imagining the 'thieves' loading up their truck and then realising they are on the wrong side of the water and can't get back to their 'bridge stealers' hideout...

WOW...If the theft of a bridge isn't enough to tell you that crime is getting worse in the world then absolutely nothing will.
