Authorities have been left baffled by thousands of dead prawns that have washed up in Chile.
So many of the crustaceans have appeared on the beaches of Concepcion province that the whole landscape has been turned pink. "What we are doing today is compiling the most evidence possible to determine if we are facing some kind of environmental crime," said a police spokesman. A representative of Chile's Environmental and Cultural Heritage Crimes Unit, Victor Casanova, was also on the scene. "We are going to go out to Coronel Bay to determine the physical temperature parameters, electric conductivity, and above all the oxygen, which is an important issue to highlight," he said.
This isn't the first time large numbers of animals have washed up on the shores of South America in recent years, only last month a significant number of dolphins and other marine mammals washed up along the Peruvian coastline for no discernible reason.[!gad]So many of the crustaceans have appeared on the beaches of Concepcion province that the whole landscape has been turned pink. Thousands of dead prawns have washed up on Chile's coastline leaving authorities confused about what could have killed them. The chief investigator said police were compiling as much evidence as possible to determine what killed the vast number of crustaceans off Concepcion province.
