In an unorthodox health experiment George Prior drank 10 cans of Coke every day to see what would happen.
With warnings from health experts about the dangers of consuming too much sugar becoming increasingly prevalent, Prior decided to demonstrate to the world just what effect a daily dose of 10 Coca-Colas would have on the average person's health.
His sugar infused diet proved extremely unhealthy, raising his blood pressure and increasing his weight by 23 pounds. By the end of his ordeal he also found himself craving more and more of the drink while finding it difficult to finish normal meals.
"The actual drinking of the ten Cokes got to be an irritating chore every day," he said. "There were a lot of visits to the restroom, a feeling of constant fullness, and a clutter of cans everywhere."
While most people don't literally drink 10 cans of Coke on a daily basis their average sugar intake can very quickly add up. Most people in the United States are thought to consume at least half a pound of sugar every day as part of their regular diet.
"I think there are a lot of people suffering health problems like diabetes and heart disease, who aren't aware they could help themselves by just stopping sugar," said Prior.
I could stay away from sugar completely if it wasn't for fruit. But fructose in fruit is not bad at all in moderation and the human body needs energy. The problem is this ''added sugar'' in food and regular comsumption of such can make you fat or give you some serious health problem in the long term. There is some serious concerns in the scientific community that High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) in large quantities is very bad. It is nonetheless added in a lot of products that you can find at the grocery store... The big issue with Coke or soda is that they are full of added sugar, and people d... [More]
From what I was once told (keep in mind that I never did look this up), this was even more true before they changed the formula in the 80s. New Coke had less phosphoric acid than the original, but when the outcry was too great, the original formula was restored, but with a new preservative cocktail with less phosphoric acid. The tail was you could put a nail in it and it would dissolve over night. I remember my dad cleaning a flue to our wood stove with a can of coke way back in the day. Interesting appliance I have been drinking 6-8 cans of Pepsi every day for at least the past 10 years. Shie... [More]
