Strange Mars structures may be trace fossils

Could this be evidence of ancient life on Mars ? Image Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/MSSS
The Mars Curiosity rover has discovered some rather peculiar structures and nobody knows what they are.
Measuring mere millimeters in length, these angular stick-like features were visible in the first batch of photographs taken this year using the rover's Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) instrument.

"They look remarkably similar to Ordovician trace fossils I have studied and photographed here on Earth," said astrobiologist and author Barry DiGregorio.

"If not trace fossils, what other geological explanations will NASA come up with ?"
Keen to get to the bottom of the mystery, the Curiosity team sent the rover back for a closer look.

"This site was so interesting that we backtracked to get to where the rover was parked for this plan," said Curiosity team member Christopher Edwards. "In the work space in front of the rover, we have some very peculiar targets that warranted some additional interrogation."

While at present it remains unclear whether or not the mystery structures really are the fossil remnants of some ancient alien species, NASA scientists are currently not ready to rule out the possibility.

"If we see more of them... then we begin to say that this is an important process that's going on at Vera Rubin Ridge," said Curiosity project scientist Ashwin Vasavada.

We really don't know what the facts are on that matter.

I am not so sure about that one and I really don't like the term debunked.

People who ask questions and don't believe everything they hear even if it comes from "authorities"

There are people who ask questions because they actually want to know the answers, and there are people who ask questions because they don't get the answers they want. Those are two completely different approaches to "just asking questions" The first one is petfectly fine, the second one not so much.

The fact on the matter are that there is nothing special about cydonia, unless you believe people like Hoagland, which I really hope you don't.

How do you know that is a fact? Have you been to Mars yourself?

Yea that makes sense and I agree.

because astrobiology is a weary narrow specialty which can contribute weary little practical knowledge to man kind (unless we find aliens for them to study), basically a joke, that most actual biologists wouldn't wan't to be called even if they did release a research paper or two theorizing on origin of life in the universe, making it virtually an insult... well some drunken biologists that I discussed this with said that... except with a lot more drunken babbling... well some guys wanting to apply for research grants while not needing to do any of the real work might want to be called that ... This really isn't an appropriate thread to be debating the merits or otherwise of the term 'astrobiologist'. Let's keep things on topic please.
