Tom Cruise's obsession with aliens fuels bid to film movie in space

The iconic action star is planning to record a movie in space while doing all the stunts himself.
There's no denying that Tom Cruise has been going from strength to strength in recent years, having not only starred in several blockbuster movies but also having famously performed most of his own stunts - many of which involving death-defying parachute jumps and other similarly dangerous acts.

But there is one thing that Cruise has been wanting to do for years and its something that, to date, no other actor has come anywhere close to accomplishing - filming a movie in space.

According to reports, this drive to venture into the final frontier is based on the actor's real-life obsession with extraterrestrial life - a subject that he's touched upon in some of his previous movie roles.

"He's fascinated with UFOs," an insider source was quoted as saying.
"He spends hours reading about them and studying all the many classified documents that have been released about them in the last few years."

"He has all sorts of high-powered telescopes and thinks people that doubt the existence of life on other planets are the delusional ones who are just kind of uneducated."

As things stand, it is understood that his upcoming space movie will be filmed through a collaboration between Universal Pictures and SpaceX and that it will be directed by Doug Liman.

While the plot is currently unknown, it is likely to have something to do with aliens and Cruise is expected to perform all his own stunts in Earth's orbit.

If such a movie actually goes ahead it will not only be the first of its kind, but will also likely cement Tom Cruise in the history books as one of the greatest action movie stars of all time.

One of the few remaining, bona fide movie stars.  Before he retires, he and Del Toro need to bring the big-big screen adaptation of The Mountains of Madness to life.

From the article: Hear hear! Other than that I wouldn't even want to know what nightmare for the logistics that would be!?! And what that costs? ...but I mean Tom Cruise is probably the right guy and this... cinematic immortality guaranteed, that's true.

That's quite an undertaking even for Tom Cruise. Imagine if he actually did it though, what a movie that would be to watch.

James Bond was in space(Moonraker), why would not Tom Cruise too?

I believe he's attempting reentry!

Of course he does, he's a scientologist.  Alien ghosts are what causes mental illness...

This would cost a fortune, doubt it will happen. Anyway, despite his crazy beliefs, still love some of his movies (Legend, The Color of Money). Edge of Tomorrow was pretty good.
