Back in 1965, the English town of Warminster became the center of a series of peculiar and unexplained occurances.
It often seems as though the most unassuming of places end up becoming hotspots for paranormal activity, UFO sightings and other mysterious phenomena; certainly in the case of Warminster - a small town on the western edge of England's Salisbury Plain - this certainly seems to hold true.

Just over 60 years ago, this otherwise unremarkable town became the center of a spate of unexplained sightings and occurrences that ranged from UFO sightings to strange, loud noises.

One of the first such incidents happened on Christmas Day, 1964, when multiple residents reported a deep, droning noise that rattled rooftops and seemed to defy explanation.

Before long, several people had come forward with reports of other strange noises, as well as sightings of flying saucers and cigar-shaped objects in the sky.

In one case, a woman who had been out around midnight, found herself completely unable to move.

In another, a man who had been walking his dog encountered something akin to a wall of sudden heat and pressure, almost like the shockwave of some strange, high-energy experiment.
There were also reports of a monstrous orange flame in the sky which crackled and hissed, as well as tales of birds falling dead onto the ground for no known reason.

Generally dubbed "The Warminster Thing", the phenomenon carried on for many years, with residents continuing to report strange incidents and sightings in and around the town.

It has since been suggested that a nearby military presence may have been to blame, yet it's difficult to imagine how this alone could account for such a wide and varied spate of reports.

Just recently, a new mural was unveiled in the town to mark the phenomenon's 60th anniversary.

Whatever was to blame, the mystery still remains on the minds of those who live there today.

Whether a definitive explanation will ever be found, however, remains to be seen.
