A man who many have dubbed the modern-day equivalent to the world-famous seer has issued a stark warning about the future.
Jiang Xueqin - a Chinese-Canadian science educator - runs a YouTube channel on which he predicts future geopolitical events using a combination of analytical techniques.
Several of his predictions have come true, including the Iran conflict and the re-election of Donald Trump, leading many to regard him as a sort of modern-day Nostradamus.
When he shares an opinion on something, therefore, people tend to take notice.
Speaking recently to YouTuber Nico Ken De Balinthazy, Jiang offered his views on the recent interest surrounding the UFO phenomenon.
"Everyone knows it's complete nonsense," he said.
"It's complete BS. There are no aliens; there's no alien technology."
Instead, he argues that the recent interest in UFOs - as well as the more widespread belief in conspiracy theories - is a distraction from more critical matters.
"And people retreat into their own bubble," he said. "Just think about the atrocities that are going to happen in the future; it's going to overwhelm people."
The biggest concern, he argues, is widespread societal fear and distrust.
"They would rather close their eyes and shut off their ears and just live in the normal world," he said.
"We've seen this happen historically before, where empires decline because of civil war, because they get exhausted."
