The astrophysicist and UFO researcher detailed his new position in a post on his blog recently.
For anyone who has been keeping tabs on our articles about the interstellar visitor 3I/ATLAS, you will likely be quite familiar with Harvard's Avi Loeb - an astrophysicist and author who has devoted a great deal of his time and resources to exploring the possibility that we are not alone in the universe.
Writing in his blog this week, he revealed that he has now been tasked by the Pentagon, the White House and various other agencies to head up a new council pertaining to the UFO phenomenon.
The team he has assembled for this new "UAP Science Advisory Council" offers a wide range of scientific knowledge and experience, as well as a healthy dose of skepticism.
"The goal of the council is to advise the US government on how to resolve the nature of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs)," Loeb wrote on his blog.
To do this, Loeb and his team will interpret available data, as well as recommend ways to obtain new data with the goal of finding a definitive explanation for the UFO phenomenon.
As things stand, it will be very interesting to see how the new council operates and what conclusions, if any, is reaches with regard to UAPs.
Whether it will be able to find proof of alien visitation, however, remains to be seen.
