Rosalia Lombardo Child Mummy
Posted by: ChocolateFairy
Died over 77 years ago. Mummification techniques used for the child are still a mystery. This little angel will forever remain a "Sleeping Beauty". I recently saw a documentary on the Palermo Catacombs and decided to a search and found this image. A single enchanting beauty among ghoulish figures in the catacombs. Perfectly preserved down to the soft hair on her head.

Wait, why dont they just take samples of what she's mummified in and find out what they used?

ChocolateFairy posted on Oct 01, 2005 at 12:02 AM
I'm sure they have. I believe the documentary stated that they just couldnt figure out the exact combination of herbs, oils, and chemicals.

I think maybe she wasn't mummified at all. Maybe she died of arsenic poisening. when a human body dies of arsenic poisening it takes incredible amounts of time to detiriorate. thats why the bodys of alot of saints still won't detriorate (arsenic poisening was more common a long time ago). the really odd thing is that the bow in her hair hasn't deteriorated. maybe it's an air tight casket preserving the body, bow, and blanket

This is one of the most interesting photo's I have seen on this site. She looks just like a sleeping child. And I know it's real because I've researched it a little.

This makes me so, so sad..... what a pretty little girl.... I have a 5 year old daughter, and I cannot even imagine what it would be like to lose her.

wow she looks like a doll.

ChocolateFairy posted on May 18, 2006 at 04:30 AM
I think they don't want to open the coffin and expose her to any bacteria in the air which may cause her to begin to decay. It wouldn't be worth the risk of damaging her.

at last..good pic!

I saw that on a TV show once. The glass case was in a room with other well preserved bodies. They also showed this empress in China who was still soft and flexible. It as cool...

This is real. I lived in Sicily for 4 years and visit the Palermo Catacombs. She was well Perserved by he father.

Laure972 posted on Jun 25, 2007 at 04:38 PM
I actually visited the catacombs in Palermo and I must tell is quite impressing to see all these momyfied bodies hanging on the walls, quite disturbing. Concerning this little girl is not a fake, I saw her with my own eyes and is very impressing, the story from our guide was that she was the daughter of a Doctor, he was so destroyed by the dead of her little girl that he created a liquid to preserve the body,is true that until now nobody knows what are the exact quantities of he herbs and liquids he used to achieve that miracle. But she is really well preserved and mparing with all the other bodies you can see in the catacombs she almost looks alive an sleeping...

this picture is amazing... truly amazing... I would love to go see the catacombs... though that does seem a tad morbid

jamesdomus posted on Oct 01, 2007 at 03:38 AM
If they don't want to open the coffin for fear of decay, chocolate fairy, then how did they do tests on the substance she was mummified in? They had to get it from inside the coffin. I think it's fake.

How sad, just looking at her makes me want to cry! Everyone deserves a proper burial, no matter how long they've been dead.
