Scientists are developing a new system that can decontaminate the air with beams of light.
Known as the HINS-light Environmental Decontamination System it works by bathing the bacteria with visible-light wavelengths in order to excite molecules within it and has so far performed promisingly in trials.
Hospital superbugs such as MRSA and Clostridium difficile could be beaten using light, scientists said today. A team from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow has developed a 'pioneering' lighting system that can kill the bacteria.

The idea reminds me of the use of a magnifying glass with sunlight to burn or melt something.

Well, its been known for some time that UV light can kill virus particles, and possibly even other simple (but dangerous) destructive and/or parasitic lifeforms such as bateria, spores, and New Labour politicians. (though its best to use a flamethrower in the later case, just to be sure. Plus, it's FAR more fun...). Sorry.. wandered off-topic there a bit. Don't know what came over me meow purr
