Some scientists believe the anomaly could be a WWII weapon designed to thwart enemy submarines.
Consisting of a concrete base covered in wire mesh, the object could have been deployed by the Germans during the war in an effort to disorient ships and submarines. If this turns out to be true then the find represents an important discovery in the field of historical warfare.
Divers have been investigating the site of the anomaly on the Baltic Sea floor since the beginning of June after it was picked up on scans by the Ocean Explorer research vessel team last year. Having been billed as a 'crashed UFO' for some weeks in newspaper headlines the expedition and its findings have been the subject of much debate and controversy since the find was first announced.
The so-called Baltic Sea UFO may in fact be a secret Nazi weapon from World War 2 designed to thwart British and Russian submarines and aircraft in the area. If so, it's still a significant historical find of weaponry lost in the fog of war.
