what sucks is the fact that the British used it as target practice a while back. i cant remember if they shot off teh beard or it fell off by itself. what i do know is taht the beard is now in a museum. and also, when first found, only part of the head was visible cuz it was so covered by sand

Actually, Mr Rainbow, you have your facts wrong again. It wasn't the British who vandalized the Sphinx. It is said to have been Napoleon's troops and they claimed that the Sphinx was defaced by Alexander the Great a few hundred years before them. Then, there are the ancient Egyptians, themselves, who removed the likeness of the original image and placed another upon it. It has been shown, geologically, that the Sphinx is older than the Great Pyramid by about eight to ten thousand years.
