A man who was caught driving along 20ft of railway track tried to explain his behaviour to police officers by claiming that his satellite navigation system had told him to do it.
A motorist who drove along 20ft of a railway line told police officers his sat nav had directed him to turn on to the track . Officers found Satlegh Mohammadi stood next to his Ford Fiesta on the tracks after they were flagged down by Network Rail workers shortly after midnight. He claimed he had been listening to his satellite navigation system which instructed him to turn right at a town centre level crossing."

I note he had been drinking, so I'm guessing that this played a part!

Reminds me of when the navi sent me the wrong way down a busy one way in Pittsburgh. TLD can attest In my defense, I'm not a city driver and was my first time there. I immediately realized and backed the hell up, LOL. I was ready to throw that thing out the window had I any clue where I was. If you're somewhere really unfamiliar with a lot of intersections and listening to the navigation tell you "Turn right in 100 yards" then "Turn right" You turn ****ing right. Train tracks are just a tad more obvious though... lol

i'm a man who knows his sense of navigation, following where the sun rises and sets, fast reacting to sudden changes in traffic and hates people who brake and turn slow at corners. I've used my navi less than 10 times and each of those times it has screwed me over. it's a $400 garmin equipment on sale to $80, but I think it's done more harm than good. When people use their navis, they tend to constantly look at it and depend on it, which is why I only use it to check directions and turn it off afterwards, rather than keep it on and constantly look at it. So I can sorta empathize with him, a li... [More]

Nobody seems to have noticed he only traveled 20 FEET on the tracks. He said he realized what happened and was getting ready to back up when the police arrived. There has been quite a bit of news on the internet recently about some of the maps being used on GPS units being extremely out of date. The UK in particular has had some major problems with trucks and cars being directed down roads which end very abruptly.

Common sense has gone right out the window! Seems like the more technologically advanced we become, the dumber some people get! Reminds me of Wall-E, where people are dumb and lack any social skills... Our minds are devolving.

The real problem really lies in people who do not understand technology any more then they understand paranormal phenomena. They think it's some kind of "magic" and do not attempt to understand all the little details that make it work, which leads to this.

It's a good thing his satellite navigation system didn't tell him to jump off a bridge.
