Scientists have succeeded in achieving phase one of an ambituous plan by the Pentagon to develop a way to regrow soldiers' limbs. The Worcester Polytechnic Institute received a grant of over half a million dollars to help achieve phase two.
The first phase of the Pentagon's plan to regrow soldiers' limbs is complete; scientists managed to turn human skin into the equivalent of a blastema — a mass of undifferentiated cells that can develop into new body parts. Now, researchers are on to phase two: turning that cellular glop into a square inch of honest-to-goodness muscle tissue."

I'm glad to hear they are getting funding for this. The real life applications are priceless.

Hopefully, this will also apply to those who lost limbs by accidents as well.

It never ceases to amaze me they only talk about are re-growing soldiers limbs!! They signed on the dotted line, it's all voluntary, what about funding to replace ALL peoples lost limbs??? So now the "sweetner" is "Join the Army you lose a limb we replace it", what about the rest of the country that pays for all these imperial expeditions - do they just have to lose out to accidents and muggings, and attempted murders and feel smug and confident that because they didnt join the Army that they should be treated as 2nd class citizens? The USA really has gone to "Hell in a handbag"

i remember reading an article about an accidental discovery by a few people, they found that when they applied a certain mixture to their severed fingertips, the fingertips grew back.

i remember reading an article about an accidental discovery by a few people, they found that when they applied a certain mixture to their severed fingertips, the fingertips grew back. I've heard of things that may be successful at stimulating growth enough to say, fill in a chunk of meat missing at the end of a finger. But "limb" implies bone structure being involved and that's a whole different game.

i remember reading an article about an accidental discovery by a few people, they found that when they applied a certain mixture to their severed fingertips, the fingertips grew back. If I remember correctly the stuff was christened "pixie dust" and preliminary testing was showing very interesting results. There might even be a thread on here about it, I think it was early last year I read the report.
