A woman in central Kazakhstan, Sakhan Dosova, has recently celebrated what is claimed to be her 130th birthday. With an alleged birth date of March 27th 1879, if true this would smash the current old age record of 122.
And you thought you felt old: Last week, in the village of Prishakhtinsk in central Kazakhstan, Sakhan Dosova celebrated what she, her family and Kazakh officials all agree was her 130th birthday. If true, her advanced age would shatter the old-timer record set by Jeanne Calment, who died in Arles, France, in 1997 at the age of 122."

Am always skeptical about these claims especially when the people live in poor countries. and usually poorly educated. I wouldn't be surprised if it unravels her birth certificate was her mothers before her who just happened to have the same name. how about you come to my country Bangladesh and see what people in the village eats...Have you ever lived in a poor rural country? Take the challenge and learn the lesson... poor people don't have the money to buy junk foods. They grow their own food and live a healthy standard life... you rarely gonna see any FAT people in the village. They live lon... [More]

And... what is the average life span in Bangladesh as compared to the USA. Even though people in the US eat almost entirely crap food, they have access to much better health care and live a far (usuall... [More]

The US is near the top with an average life expectancy of 78 years. Bangladesh is about mid way down the list with a average life expectancy of just under 63 years. To be fair, people in Bangladesh don't typically spend their last 10 to 15 years in the nursing home... On a brighter note, if the U.S. is up to 78 years average, we've improved it one year in the last 40 years (according to the official avg of 77 that was released in 1971 and has been rewritten since then to look somewhat different). Of course, since '71, the quality of life in the last 10 years has dropped drastically... JS

Wow! That is absolutely amazing! I wouldn't mind living that long if I could be pretty healthy and able to care for myself and have my right mind. It must be cool to watch how the world has changed and how technology has advanced. She has seen things that no one else born in her time has seen. True there are pros and cons and trade offs but a person could be young and still see all of thier freinds, family pass. A person could be young and have aches & pains. I think the good outweighs the bad if a person is healthy and in their right mind and can care for themselves etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if it unravels her birth certificate was her mothers before her who just happened to have the same name. That is a good point though, especially with no official birth certificate and being delivered by midwives etc like they did back then. It is interesting if it is true.

I would expect a person who lives in an area free of many of the chemicals that those in larger cities face would live a lot longer, logically. Just because she lives in a "poorer" community doesn't mean she's not as healthy as someone that breathes car exhaust everyday. Yeah she was probably very active all her life especially with all of those kids, and ate more natural healthy food and she grew up at a time when people used home remedies and natural plants and stuff instead of drugs and pills like today etc.

A poor environment most likely and logically will not sustain good medicine; hence "not healthy" USUALLY. Unless she used home remedies passed down from generations like people did back in those days.

There might be some very old people out there, but most are just in it for the publicity (or their relatives are). The US is near the top with an average life expectancy of 78 years. I wouldn't excactly call 45th "near the top" .

IMO genetics play the biggest role in how long you live. Sure, someone can add a few years to their life by taking good care of themselves but it is more likely that if your parents lived to be 90, you will likely live to be at least that old living a normal life.
