A linguistic analysis has confirmed that Neil Armstrong did miss out the "a" in his "one small step for man" speech when he first set foot on the Moon in 1969, it is thought he missed out the letter due to the pressure of the trip.
Neil Armstrong missed out an "a" and did not say "one small step for a man" when he set foot on the Moon in 1969, a linguistic analysis has confirmed."

I can assure you anyone who researched this matter had a little time on their hands, and no NASA study was commissioned to determine if a tiny syllable was dropped by the radio quality on July 20, 1969. I never claimed that NASA were the ones who decided to get somebody to research it, it could have been a number of different institutions. How can you be so sure it wasn't funded research? Sure, if it was somebody doing it in their own time then fine, no problem. But if this really was funded, and if the money came from tax payers then people would rightfully be angry. Unless, of course, you en... [More]

Unless, of course, you enjoy paying for people to research the correctness of (arguably) unimportant quotes. I would hardly call that an irrelevancy. The very thought that such a silly thing could be paid for by taxpayer money i... [More]

The very thought that such a silly thing could be paid for by taxpayer money is ludicrous. Indeed, it should make any rational person angry if it were government funded...despite the fact that it would be a pittance, especially related to what the current government is spending. I can be pretty darn sure that NASA wasn't involved with anything so silly. i can only imagine that some ex nasa employee who was working to make the moon landing a success was watching their television one day and then realised "im sure that was supposed to be A man" next thing you know they phone up nasa saying blah ... i can only imagine that some ex nasa employee who was working to make the moon landing a success was watching their television one day and then realised "im sure that was supposed to be A man" next thing you know they phone up nasa saying blah blah blah, nasa finds the , they look through the video and then conclude "oh yeah, he did miss out that A after all" and all that done in 10 minutes if not then it is probably government funded I recall this little thing coming up ca. 2004, concurrent with the 35th anniversary of the mission. All Neil had to say about it was that his intent was to say "... [More]

I agree it does flow better without the 'a'. Makes it sound sore poetic and philosophical.

I agree it does flow better without the 'a'. Makes it sound sore poetic and philosophical. However, it also sounds inane, redundant, and makes no sense.

Far more 'ludicrous' things have been funded by tax payers over the years, especially in Britain, so it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. And once again, I never claimed it would be NASA who would fund it. NASA don't own the rights to the quote, and whilst being the most likely institution to fund ridiculous research like this, in terms of their closeness to the cause, it is obvious common sense that they would not. As I said before, don't just assume it wasn't funded research, and don't assume that if it was that the money didn't come from the tax payer. After all, high court judges have... [More]

Let's see here: These guys go all the way to the moon. They were strapped onto a humongous rocket and blasted into space. They spent time in a tin can sized space capsule. They landed on the moon for the first time in history. So, when Mr. Armstrong finally gets to come down that ladder and become the first person to ever walk on another planet, maybe, just maybe he was a teeny weeny bit nervous? Nervous enough to skip over an 'a' perhaps?
