Scientists have discovered the world's first 'self-watering' plant in Israel's Negev desert – one of the driest regions on earth. The Desert Rhubarb can hold 16 times more water than its rivals and has developed a unique ability to effectively water itself in its barren habitat."

I say genetically alter other plants to have this gene, imagine the water that would be saved.

This is definately something I'd remember if I'm ever stuck in the desert with no water and I happen to come across this plant. Although 16 times is relative to what 1/16 is. Could be that it's only a drab or so.
