Swearing can help reduce the feeling of physical pain scientists have found, it is thought this could have been part of a fight or flight response our ancestors would have used when faced with dangerous predators.
Scientists have discovered that uttering swear words can help to lessen the feeling of physical pain. The study by researchers at Keele University found that volunteers were able to withstand pain for longer when they swore compared to when they used words which were not offensive."

OMG, that is so true, the more you try to hold it in the more it hurts. The corner of a fridge on a cold morning is a killer on cold sleepy toes.

Yeah I try the Battlestar Galactica way of "Frak" and the Elliot Reed way of "Frick!" and my own swear word "Schnoozendorfenbergen" (ha ha I'm not even German) but the old style is still the most appealing.
