A compound first discovered in the soil of Easter Island called "rapamycin" has shown promising results when administered to mice, increasing their lifespan by a third and offering hope for similar application in humans.
These Easter Island monoliths have endured for centuries. New research suggests that a compound first discovered in soil of the remote South Pacific island might help humans stand the test of time, too."

bad news . next you will see people break the monoliths to pieces to sell . remember what happen to the mummy in the past? It's in the soil. Furthermore, it is a common export of China. Before anyone runs out and tries to get some, read this: http://www.answers.com/topic/sirolimus In other words, there must be some modification that is done to alter the properties of the compound before it's administered as a longevity drug.

Combine that with resveratrol...and possibly extend your life, youth, and health significantly. This is good news, even if it's eventually an herbal product, it gets people interested in longevity.

Ah, booster spice or whatever you want to call it. As long as it does not turn you into a Sandworm or Guild Navigator by taking it.

That would be pretty amazing if the substance does prove to be successful. Longer life, who wouldn't want that?

Surely with exponential population growth and consequent overcrowding the last thing we want to do is make everyone live longer.

Surely with exponential population growth and consequent overcrowding the last thing we want to do is make everyone live longer. The already trained workforce could work longer, and corps wouldn't have to train new people as soon, I would think.

Surely with exponential population growth and consequent overcrowding the last thing we want to do is make everyone live longer. This is a fallacy. The world population is progressively getting older. Sooner or later birth to death ratios will turn over and countries will have trouble maintaining populations. However, should something like this (anti aging stuff) happen it would most certainly change everything. Only problem is that these things are always years away and never come to fruition.
