A new paper has detailed the study of a man who suffered a rare condition leaving him with a large portion of his brain missing. Despite the lack of brain matter the only major thing that it seems to have lost him is his memory.
A lovely new paper reports in fascinating detail on a man who lost a uniquely large portion of his brain: Bilateral limbic system destruction in man. The authors, Feinstein et al from Iowa City, have studied the patient, "Roger", for 14 years.

My aunt was born without a cerebellum. This is the part of the brain that controls small motor functions and coordination, and it's also associated with the ability to understand music. She didn't learn that she was missing this part of her brain until she was 64 years old when she had a small stroke and had a CAT scan done. It's supposedly a super rare condition, and the few people they know that suffer from it can't walk or can't walk well. However, my aunt didn't discover she was missing hers until she was 64! From birth, the other parts of her brain completely and fully compensated for wha... [More]

I do hope he's going to be entering the realm of politics, since he's got half a brain more than most of them have.

The brain really is amazing. There was a story a few years ago about a young lady in Great Britain who had just completed several A levels in her education. What made that unusual was that a CT scan showed her skull to look virtually empty. For some reason her brain instead of developing the way the brain normally does had formed in a layer almost flat against the side of the skull.

I found the reason why he survived.....The Hypothalamic part of the brain have Cardiac centres which control the cardiac muscles and keep away the intercalated disc present in them from being fatigued. When half of the brain was lost Fortunately the hypothalamic part of the brain that controlled cardiac centers was not lost and thus he lived...I hope that is logical Thanks B???

It makes sense to me. My eldest son only has a left brain inside his head after he became ill as a baby. He then suffered a stroke which killed his right brain completely. He is severely disabled: he cannot walk at all, ... [More]
