Climate change debate rages on

The BBC have run an article on the global warming debate claiming that the warmest recent year on record was 1998 and that the last 11 years have not observed any increase in global temperatures.
This headline may come as a bit of a surprise, so too might that fact that the warmest year recorded globally was not in 2008 or 2007, but in 1998. But it is true. For the last 11 years we have not observed any increase in global temperatures.

Those links are interesting, but do not confront the fact that at current rates it will take ten thousand years to cause total disaster, plus the fact that 99% of the ice is on those two land masses. We are looking at ocean ice melt in the near future certainly, but not global flooding which is fear-mongered about in Environmental circles. This is a straw man exaggeration. Nobody actually thinks that a global flood is going to occur because of global warming. However, the effects are serious. Heck, the effects we've already seen have been serious.

Today on BBC.com The Arctic Ocean could be largely ice-free and open to shipping during the summer in as little as ten years' time, a top polar specialist has said."It's like man is taking the lid off the northern part of the planet," said Professor Peter Wadhams, from the University of Cambridge. Professor Wadhams has been studying the Arctic ice since the 1960s. He was speaking in central London at the launch of the findings of the Catlin Arctic Survey. The expedition trekked across 435km of ice earlier this year. Led by explorer Pen Hadow, the team's measurements found that the ice-floes we... [More]

I think more is being read into what I said than is there. I never said that there wasn't a change in climate. The Earth goes thru cycles of heating and cooling. It would happen whether we were here or not. I see statistical information thrown up to support a viewpoint but I can go out and find conflicting data. The Russians are very sure that we are headed for an ice age. Are they wrong? The fact is nobody can be sure if and how much humankind is affecting climate change. And yes, I am offended by a movie star who does a one minute commercial about how the Polar Bears are going extinct becaus... [More]

Hey Jbondo, I agree with you on everything you said in your last post... except the light bulbs. I hate those things, they give me an awful rash. Seriously. If you go solar it's only your energy your spending so let us have regular light bulbs, darnit. H

Why do you ignore the data that SQL is showing to everyone? you seem to be talking about your own opinion about global warming which in any case means nothing at all. Russia talking about another ice age? please let see a link! My opinion? I just said that I support neither side in this debate. By the way, here's the link you requested. http://en.rian.ru/science/20080122/97519953.html Oh and another: http://english.pravda.ru/science/earth/106922-0/ Ice Core Data graph from above article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Vostok-ice-core-petit.png You see, I can spit out data, pictures and grap... Whether you believe in global warming/cooling, the influence of the sun, a natural cycle, or what have you. The obvious thing that matters most as intelligent custodians of this world, whatever kind of statistical data we encounter, is that we do our obligation to protect and preserve our natural environment.

It was better if this was never leaked now people will think that anyway its becoming less so why not return to the standards they like?...By publishing this we are only discouraging the people who thought to make some steps to decrease global warming Thanks B???

More information is better. People are not stupid, granted some are not as intelligent but to give people only enough information to have them act a certain way is wrong any way you slice it. Manipulation by the lack of information when it effects the world in such a profound way can't be right. We all know polluting is wrong, it's a personal responsiblity and I for one don't need any government telling me how to live. The biggest role they should play in this areana is making it easier to go solar and recycle. I want more information without bias and let me make up my own mind. H
