Alien worlds spotted outside our galaxy

A University student has discovered evidence of extrasolar planets outside of our own galaxy, up until now scientists have only identified exoplanets within the Milky Way at a maximum distance of 20,000 light years.
Alien worlds have been discovered beyond our own galaxy for the first time, according to astronomers. Scientists now regularly find exoplanets within the Milky Way and 403 have been catalogued since 1995. The furthest resides around 20,000 light years away.

My lord there's a lot of Canadian university people doing stuff in a lot of these articles. Just today in the paper I read about another astronomy-based piece of news on dying-star work done by a Canadian student.

makes you think, doesn't it. What we're looking at here is something that was there 20,000 years ago. Don't you think that galaxy in the picture looks like a fish, or something?

Mainstream tells us there may or may not be life on Mars (and that's our solar neighbor)...But 20,000 light beers, come on!? Doesn't it have to be known beyond doubt there's some kind of actual life on these planets(?) before they tag em as 'alien' worlds?

What I find funny is that Roberto Abraham is quoted in saying that it is the most surprising result he has ever worked on. Surprising in what way? If circumstellar discs occur in our own milky way galaxy, why not elsewhere?
