In a world first scientists have managed to determine the colour of a dinosaur, the sinosauropteryx has turned out to be ginger.
The small dog-sized feathered dinosaur lived 125 million years ago and would have been a russet orange colour. Scientists were able to determine this by examining microscopic structures in fossil remains of the creature.
Scientists have revealed that the dog-sized Sinosauropteryx - a fast running meat-eater that lived 125 million years ago - was covered with 'russet and orange' feathers.

It would seem to me that animals are only ever brightly coloured because they are poisonous - to warn other animals to stay away. Not heard of any venoumous or poisonous dinosaurs, so likely they were normal boring colours. Not true, some animals, especially birds (dinos closest relations) are brightly coloured for display purpose, some are also brightly coloured as mimics.

I was wondering why they had a "Careful, I bite" sign next to the green and gold macaw at my local pet store.

Also, didn't paleontologists recently find a dinosaur skull that they thought had signs of a primitive venom system?

It's true that many venomous animals use bright colours as a warning, but they make up only a small percentage of the animal population that use colour for display.

That Daily Mail article was pathetic. There is no place for that kind of personal prejudice in a science story. Would it be so acceptable if it were having a dig at any other ethnic group because of a physical difference or colour difference? Are people aware that this is just giving the green light to the thugs out there who are just looking for any excuse to find targets for bullying? Pathetic and stupid comments! My personal opinion is that making a jest isn't necessarily a bad thing, as long as everyone knows it's a jest. It's obvious - at least to me - when someone is being malicious comp... [More]
