A team of 30 doctors and surgeons have performed the world's first full face transplant on a young man in Spain.
The man had been left disfigured and unable to speak, swallow or breathe properly after accidentally shooting himself in the face. The extensive 24-hour operation replaced his cheekbones, teeth, nose, jaw, lips and more.
The ground-breaking operation was carried out last month on a young man whose face had been disfigured in an accident. While face transplants have been carried out in the past they have only been partial.
