NASA views "funny tasting" planet

NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope has observed an extrasolar planet with a peculiar lack of methane.
The distant planet is about the size of Neptune and unlike most others planets observed to date it has no methane at all. The ultimate goal of the search is to find a small earth-like world with methane that could indicate the presence of life.
NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope has discovered something odd about a distant planet -- it lacks methane, an ingredient common to many of the planets in our solar system. "It's a big puzzle," said Kevin Stevenson, a planetary sciences graduate student at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, lead author of a study appearing tomorrow, April 22 in the journal Nature.

I know that some of the brightest minds in the World work on finding these exo-planets. But the extremes that are being used to do the work makes me think that a lot of mistakes should be expected. The observations and Artists renditions are fabulous and thought provoking , but we may find in the future that the readings were misinterpreted. I guess the Skeptic in me makes me question the results.
