A glowing orange object was sighted in the skies over West Lothian in Scotland on Wednesday night.
The object moved slowly across the sky making no discernable sound before eventually disappearing behind clouds. Some believe it to have been little more than a sky lantern however others have pointed out that the area was also the scene of one of the country's most famous UFO sightings.
John Dickson spotted the object on Wednesday night at around 10. 35pm over Livingston. He described it as heading in a north-east direction towards Edinburgh Airport. Mr Dickson said that it was moving slowly and not making any sound, and was glowing with an orange light before it appeared to go dark and disappeared into the cloud cover.

Maybe two satellites? Each moving in a different direction.

Maybe two satellites? Each moving in a different direction. You could check to see since we have a date and time, but this is unlikely as almost all satellites with only a few exceptions are launched in one direction to gain the 1000 MPH or so of the Earths rotation.

The UK gets all the cool eye witness accounts. In 1979, forestry worker Bob Taylor who was employed by Livingston Development Corporation came across a strange scene in Dechmont Wood. In a clearing there was a metallic spherical object around 12 feet high. When Mr taylor approached it, two smaller spheres around three feet in diameter that appeared to be covered in spikes emerged from the bottom of the large sphere and began rolling towards him. The small spheres grabbed his trousers and dragged him towards the large object, and he passed out. He regained consciousness around 20 minutes, suffer... [More]

I find the source to be doubting itself? From the link. While the most likely cause of the sighting was a sky lantern, a paper balloon with a wire frame that floats in the sky while a candle burns inside it and heats up the enclosed air, the story cannot be so easily dismissed on account of the Livingston area being the location of one of the country's most famous UFO sightings. It's like they don't really have a reason to say UFO, but wanted to and did anyway. Sells more papers guess.

I saw a group of 5 of these in Stourbridge, West Midlands on 27th April 2010 and 1 on it's own on the 28th. I even tweeted this (@mingermale) for twitter. If these were Chinese lantern's, how many Chinese festivals use them and when.

I see Chinese lanterns over Liverpool most evenings, there doesn't seem to be a specific reason why these things are used now.
