Controversial new research conducted by a team at Indiana university has suggested that prayer really can heal.
The study was lead by Professor Candy Gunther Brown and appeared to show that patients' hearing and vision improved when a healing practitioner prayed for them however experts at the National Secular Society have claimed that the study was religiously motivated and that the results were "highly suspect".
The power of prayer really can help to heal the sick, an international study has found - especially if the well-wisher is standing near the person they are praying for.

That is the same thing as a blind study... Read my post here about how that still wouldn't work. But I don't buy that because you're assigning possible attributes to prayers that we have no reason to believe that they have. But you're right, that is what a blind study is. Usually I read all posts, but this time I skipped over a few.

Usually I read all posts, but this time I skipped over a few. I know science doesn't have to accept these attributes to prayers but if they are planning to a experiment prayers then they need to perform the right kind of prayer, not just whatever to fit the bill. Otherwise there will be many errors i.e. because it isn't a prayers you are experimenting but the placebo effect or some other similar phenomenon. Either ways, ... [More]

Then I misunderstood you and totally agree. Tests like these should be done with very clear definitions in mind.

How many die to prayer vs using medical care. I would say it's an outstanding number that only a very few could think prayer is of any aid what so ever. How many die praying for water or food, how many die thinking that they don't need a doctor, how many die because doctors cost money. Far to many to say even god gives a crap. If praying worked then we would use it. How many doctor visits have the Popes had over the years and all the prayer for them has done nothing. God can't even figure out if he wants a sane Pope or a more Insane Pope LOL

i've dealt with this alot whenever i get sick i always pray and it does make you feel better to know that someone, something is there to look after you but i'm not saying that a docter isn't helpful, the two go hand in hand, IMO. It's all mind over matter if you believe something will help you.... it will, hence the placebo effect.

Fair enough if you believe in that but for me it sounds more like a mind over matter type of thing mind over matter, prayer, power of belief, etc....all different terms for the same thing? anyone seen the gregg braden video "the science of miracles"? i'd check it out, very intriguing...dude has some wild hair too Prayers to who? who said prayers have to be to anyone/thing? or why not just pray to the prayer itself?

It's all mind over matter if you believe something will help you.... it will, hence the placebo effect. That's my take on it. It's not the prayer itself, but the belief behind it. If a person believes that it will work, it has a good chance of working. There doesn't need to be anything else behind it. If you're sick, and maintain a positive attitude and BELIEVE that y... I've read "studies" that support both claims. I think it's safe to say that prayer makes the faithful feel better. There may even be a case for claiming that being surrounded by positive emotions and support...like that found in a genuinely faithful environment (regardless if that faith is in God or humanity)...is beneficial to someones well being.
