The highest known living tigers have been discovered high up in the Himalayas by the BBC's Natural History Unit.
Trail cams set up some 4,000 metres above sea level in the cold, remote Himalayan hills managed to capture footage of a breeding pair of tigers making them the highest known tigers in the world.
Television footage shot by the BBC's Natural History Unit has provided the first evidence that tigers can live and breed at extremely high altitudes. The team filmed the animals, normally found in jungle habitats, more than 4,000 metres high in the Himalayas.

I think that I should move over there to protect them, I mean why not obviously they are the coolest and the HIGHEST tigers alive. They can not get catnip, but Marijuana is a definitely.

Any of you think it is possible that these tigers are a newly discovered subspecies? Because Tigers aren't known to live in high mountains and it seems these ones are. If they are a new subspecies. It should be called the Himalayan Tiger and this is a good trinomial name for it if it is a new subspecies. Panthera tigris himalayanus

I actually think Tigers or any large predator should be culled or made extinct altogether. I have no empathy for any animal other than my fellow humans. If all dangerous/venomous animals could be culled then IMO great.

Good news for once although I agree, it would probably be better if it had not been made widely known! if we did that we would have to start with the most dangeress one, humans. Too true!

"himalayanus"? I think I got that once from toboganing too long. A hot bath will fix it up in no time. It's great that there are more tigers, all nature needs is a place to hide from human hands. Although I do think it would suck to stumble accross one, I mean not only did you just climb a mountain, but the air is pretty thin at 4Km, without firearms you're himalayanus belongs to the tiger.

Wow. . .I really hope you're joking. . .Get rid of all the animals you believe are dangerous and you'll be over run by ones that are just as dangerous but had been kept in check by the ones you've done away with. Keep getting rid of them, and the ecosystem will collapse and kill people in a way that is much more slow and painful than the death by any of those "dangerous" animals.... [More]

This is just fantastic news! These cats probably moved up there to get away from human populations, adapted to the higher altitudes and started breeding. I agree that they probably should have kept it quiet though, some mental defective with a gun, will decide he needs Himalayan Tiger stripes on his floor.

I assume your definition of dangerous in this scenario is dangerous to humans. Very few animals are actually dangerous to humans. Most "dangerous" animals attack humans because they are provoked, not because we are prey. Moreover, not every large predator can even be considered dangerous.
