Body of gladiator discovered

The remains of a huge gladiator from 1600 years ago have been discovered by workmen in York.
The gladiator would have fought for his life in an amphitheatre at the site, examination of the remains show that he was stabbed six times and the lack of a ceremonial burial suggests that his body may have been simply disgarded, possibly due to his failure in combat.
The amphitheatre would have been similar to the one seen in the 2000 film Gladiator which featured Russell Crowe as a bloodthirsty warrior. The remains of the British gladiator were found just 30cm below the foundations of the museum by builders carrying out refurbishment works.

Maybe he was a Celtic or Germanic "barbarian" of some kind, captured, enslaved or put to death in the arena. Those people were known to be much taller and larger than the Romans, too.
