A woman who lost control of her left hand after surgery to cure her epilespy shares her story.
Karen Byrne, a 55 year old New Jersey woman, has purportedly lived with Alien Hand Syndrome for 28 years. The disorder (which causes unintended action in the afflicted body part[s]) has affected Mrs Byrne since she underwent radical surgery to cure her of a severe case of epilepsy. Doctors believe that the syndrome is a side effect of severing the corpus callosum, a small cluster of nerves that keeps the two halves of the brain harmonized. She reports that before she was given medicine to keep the disorder under control her left hand would snub out cigarettes, remove things from her purse, attack other parts of her body and even attempt to remove her clothing.
"Dr O'Connor said, 'Karen what are you doing? Your hand's undressing you'. Until he said that I had no idea that my left hand was opening up the buttons of my shirt. "

If I understand this correctly it uncontrolled signals going to the left hand making it move, right? But why is it doing actually stuff that makes you think there's some kind of intelligence moving it?

Think of the ways this can get you in trouble in public, spanking the person in front of you, giving the finger to strangers..., I remember reading a case and I think it was an Anthony Peake book of this guy having this part of the brain severed and long story short the "alien hand" tried choking him. it makes me wonder what this could possibly be to cause the hand to act on its own, random triggers going off?
