Moth removed from man's ear

A 40-year-old man ended up in hospital after a moth flew down his ear while he was watching TV.
Doctors admitted that they'd never seen anything like it before as they attempted to extract the moth from his ear drum. Jay Chinn says he spent over an hour trying to remove the moth himself using a toothpick and a vacuum cleaner before giving up and seeking medical assistance. Doctors eventually removed the critter using a small surgical vacuum device.
Jay Chinn struggled for an hour to get rid of the insect, first using a toothpick and then resorting to his vacuum cleaner before he admitted defeat and went to Derriford Hospital. Doctors successfully removed the mini-beast which Mr Chinn, a youth development worker, later took home as evidence for his disbelieving wife Claire, 33.

To bad he didn't have Alien Hand syndrome. It may have caught the moth when he wasn't looking!

Still, lucky it wasn't a bee. Oh man, that would not end well. Imagine if you happen to be allergic to a bee sting?

Oh man, that would not end well. Imagine if you happen to be allergic to a bee sting? Yeah its a horrible thought isnt it. Dont know what made me think of that. I've heard you should pour water into your ear if any bug gets trapped there. Might be a good idea

What is it with people sticking things into their ears? Even if something as annoying as an insect happens to be inside of your ear, it's not advisable to stick q-tips or toothpicks into your ear canal! Car keys seem to work pretty well. I once had a bug crawl in one ear and an hour or so later it came crawling out the other ear. ( I assume it was the same bug )

Maybe. But then again, I'd be scared to try it in case the bug decides to try going in deeper instead of trying to get out. Ooooo true I spose Id just race off to the doctors real fast. Though I wouldnt be able to help poking a chop stick in my ear or something. Im surprised its not more common actually. Bugs are everywhere

This happened to my mother when I was small. A small cockroach went inside my mother's ear. As I was told, my father brought her to the hospital and the doctor used water to drown the insect.
