The absurdly hot Grantham grown chilli has a Scoville Scale rating of 1,176,182.
It is so hot in fact that it exceeds even the Bhut Jolokia chilli that is powerful enough to be used as an ingredient in hand grenades designed to incapacitate an opponent. Nick Martin, the man who grew the new 'Infinity Chilli' decided to try eating one. "It was all a bit worrying," he said. "The burn on my tongue lasted half an hour and the effects went on and on. At one point I was doubled over in pain and thinking about ringing the hospital."
Tests have revealed the "Infinity Chilli" to have a Scoville Scale Rating of 1,176,182 - hotter than chilli reportedly used in hand grenades by the Indian military. But what is the attraction of this insanely hot ingredient?

Some people like to "feel" their food, not just taste it. I admit to being a chilli lover, though I'm not sure I'd willingly go and submit myself to the hottest chilli on earth. My pastor though, he might. He grew up in a Vietnamese family and has been so desensitised to chilli it sometimes seems like he can't taste food unless there's chilli on it. Maybe I'll pass on the article from the OP to him

Habanero's don't have any flavor and I'd venture to guess these hybrids that have appeared in the last few years are not any different, just hotter. Habanero's do have flavor. Personally it's my favorite of the entire pepper family. A little bit goes a very long way. Not only does the habanero have it's own flavor but it also enhances other flavors when used properly. One of my favorite burrito toppings is Papaya Habanero salsa. Mmmm, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. I'm not sure I'd want to eat this newly discovered pepper raw by itself though. I like spicy but I don't like ring s... [More]

And here's a link of a guy eating a teaspoonfull of pure crystal capsaicin extract which is 16 000 000 (sixteen million) on the Scoville scale. For anyone curious of the effects of someone eating something really, REALLY hot. Suprsingly entertaining! he also briefly mentions Endorphins, which Pallidin may find interesting!

Watching him suffer for his own stupidity is surprisingly entertaining.

Those that say habanero's have flavor are more sensitive than I am. I've had straight habanero and tasted nothing but heat. I used to be one of those guys that had to have hot sauce on everything and the hotter the better but unless the habanero was blended with something I got no flavor from it. Now I prefer Crystal which has the blend I like. Great tang and enough heat to keep you satisfied. Problem is I got hooked on it when I lived in South Florida. Now I live in Chicagoland and can't get it. I love Cuban, Puerto Rican and Columbian food a lot! Cubans use habanero on lots of what they eat ... [More]

I have 'blaire's ultra death hot sauce' on pretty much any dinner i eat at home, i love the flavour, and certainly the burn, but i've always been a chilli nut. I think that measures at a bit above 1 million mark on the scoville scale, so about that same as the 'infinity chilli'. I'd love to give them a go, but i doubt they'd taste anywhere near as good as 'blair's'.

the hottest ive ever tried was a hot wing from this sports bar, i only ate 1 it had a good flavor but extremely hot after about 10 seconds. it made me sweat and i brought a few home in Styrofoam and it ate through it while in my fridge. so the wings were just sitting on the plastic shelf the next day. the hottest ive ever tried was a hot wing from this sports bar, i only ate 1 it had a good flavor but extremely hot after about 10 seconds. it made me sweat and i brought a few home in Styrofoam and it ate through it while in my fridge. so the wings were just sitting on the plastic shelf the next... Fantastic. A chilli so hot you can't eat it.
