Loudest cat purrs as loud as a jet plane

A cat called Smokey has raised eyebrows with her deafening purr that can reach 92 decibels.
The cat's owner claims that the purring can drown out pretty much anything including the TV and telephone conversations. "It's either adorable or annoying, depending on what mood you're in," she says. "You don't even have to stroke her to start a purring session. Often she'll do it for no reason."
For cat lovers, there is nothing more soothing than the sound of their pet purring with contentment. But when Smokey kicks off, it’s time to reach for the ear plugs. The sound she produces can reach an incredible 92 decibels – the same as you’d experience watching a Boeing 737 coming in to land.

hmm, at what distance was this measured? If it was right up to the cats mouth than the given db value would be highly overstated. Wonder what it would be at 1m.

Well in part of the article it said the purr was something like 89db when the recorder was placed 5 feet away.
