Researchers design "faux trees"

To help solve the problem of poor air quality in big cities researchers have developed artificial trees.
A team at the Lenfest Center for Sustainable Energy at Columbia University have created a machine that can not only simulate the conversion of carbon dioxide to oxygen but also looks very similar to a real dragon blood tree.
Air is one of the few things that you really cannot do without. At least if you want to continue to live. As the population of the earth gets bigger and bigger and increasing amounts of the globe become industrialized cityscape, the quality of air is a major environmental concern.

Seem's like the world just keep's becoming more and more atrificial. Make's me wonder what's in store for Nature if this keep's up. As mentioned above, it would have been wiser to just plant an actual tree.

If the performance is far greater than a real tree, then yeah. I still wondered where all the Carbon go. Could be useful if we use to for energy.

wowo that's fascinating, and genious people should make more of these in urban areas should help the air become more healthier

I agree with above. Plant a tree and move on to better things.

This is a good idea for Urban area's where tree's just don't have room, light, environment to grow. However, as stated above, this could just be another way we deplete our planets resources and justify it by saying "Oh we can replicate it, so big deal."

Anything and everything is possible and exists as potential. It doesn't have to implie "Oh we can replicate it, so big deal." Since it's possible, they're simply physically manifesting it; being creative.

I'm sure that's what the scientists said of the Atomic Bomb. They were being creative as well. As in human history, and human nature, things built for good or bad are generally turned into something that will hurt mankind.

could have uses in big cities like some people mentioned or even in big indoor buildings instead of fake plants that are just for looks.

This will fit on top of buildings in urban areas, as a replacement for the green roof project, assuming that it is more efficient especially the cost and maintenance. The bad thing is that it looks dead as opposed to real trees which gives that brilliant "life" aura. These artificial trees looks more space-like or techno, obviously. But I still definitely prefer real trees.

I'm sure that's what the scientists said of the Atomic Bomb. They were being creative as well. As in human history, and human nature, things built for good or bad are generally turned into something that will hurt mankind. The tools are never bad. What's bad is the intention of the people behind it. You can either use a knife to cut food or stuff or you can use it to murder. Relying on electronic too much is very bad. One day, Armageddon comes, all electric sources shut down, we'd be all suffocated.
