How anyone could consider this a waste of time is beyond me. If we ever have need to divert an asteroid that is on a collision course with Earth, missions like this would be critical baby steps to achieve. If the universe deems that we need to be incinerated, who are we mere humans to intercede?

A total waste of time not to metion it is something NASA will never follow through with. There should already be a moon base by now or at least in the process of having already returned to the moon.
