Scientists have mapped organic compounds in a 50-million year-old reptile skin sample.
"This was one of the best preserved dinosaurs discovered, and we were able to show that there was organic compound from the skin remaining (on the fossil)," says geochemist Dr Wogelius from the University of Manchester.
A unique image, for the first time, has mapped organic compounds that are still surviving in a 50-million-year-old sample of reptile skin. The infra-red picture reveals the chemical profile of the skin, offering an insight into how it was preserved.

Hope it's not to late to comment. Read the article, very heartening! Maybe it's time for my findings, as well, to finally be realized. The petrification and mineralization of soft-tissue is common and starts with salt. The minerals micro-crystallize around the organics, encasing them forever. C T scanning may also be of use on 3-d specimens. Maybe a SEM refractometer can scan the DNA. Jurassic Park here we come! Thanks for posting it, I bookmarked it.

A distinctive image, the very first time, has planned organic compounds which are still making it through inside a 50-million-year-old sample of reptile skin. The infra-red-colored picture discloses caffeine profile of your skin, offering a look into the way it was maintained. A team of United kingdom researchers the sample am well maintained it was tough to differentiate between your fossil and also the fresh samples.
