The remains of a giant species of rabbit six times the size of today's rabbits has been discovered.
Its discovery on the island of Minorca has earned it the name "Minorcan king of the rabbits". The giant rabbit would have lived 3 to 5 million years ago and weighed 26 pounds but wouldn't have been able to hop like its modern day counterparts.
The giant probably also had poor hearing and vision, with relatively small eye sockets and internal ear parts. Its senses likely deteriorated for the same reason it got so large — it did not have predators to worry about.
