At 12 Jacob Barnett seems like any other kid - but there's a lot more to him than meets the eye.
With an IQ of 170 Barnett taught himself calculus, algebra, and geometry while he was less than 8 years old. Now taking advanced astrophysics classes he is being hailed as a child genius and has even started working on a theory to challenge the Big Bang.
n some ways, Jacob Barnett is just like any other 12-year-old kid. He plays Guitar Hero, shoots hoops with his friends, and has a platonic girlfriend. But in other ways, he's a little different. Jake, who has an IQ of 170, began solving 5,000-piece jigsaw puzzles at the age of 3.

Is this an April Fool's Day joke? I mean, for someone to solve a 5,000-piece jigsaw puzzles at the age of 3 (assuming he did it in a day's time, or did he even finished solving this? lol j/k), taught himself "tough" subjects in two weeks a few years later and left high school at 8... isn't an IQ of 170 is an underestimation? Even if he's IQ is 180, it's still not right.. his IQ should have been at least 190? (IQ Scores depends on who/what measures/calculates it so I might be very x3 wrong) Assuming this is all true,he's a poor kid, he is totally unsupervised and now some jealous people wants h... [More]

we do not need to take this step. it isnt like we dont have enough food. the usa government throws away enough food ever year to feed the world. add to that what the restraunts in the country throws away, plus the food europe throws away. plenty of food, it is the lack of infrastructure and the dictators that cause world hungry I think that was my point. There are too many wasteful "haves" who consume willy nilly, and then there are those, like the dictators that you mention, who only see thier people as a commodity to be used up and thrown away. Or, even worse, they see the "have nots" as a b... [More]

I think that was my point. There are too many wasteful "haves" who consume willy nilly, and then there are those, like the dictators that you mention, who only see thier people as a commodity to be used up and thrown away. Or, even worse, they see the "have nots" as a burden to be done away with, usually for political expediancy. Those are the things that living a moral life would solve. I don't however hold out any hope of mankind ever evolving to that point. I fear we will blow ourselves up long before that. I am not sure what step you were referring to as needing not be taken. If it was the... [More]

Seriously though, we need these sort of super minds to put there IQ's towards more pressing matters like desease, famine & enviromental issues. Has happened many times. Blame politics for no action.

Has happened many times. Blame politics for no action. and that puts it right back into the hands of the people. either it is out of greed, fear, or indifference, doesnt matter what country you live in free or dictator.

First of all, the kid needs to take that backwards baseball cap off. There is no way anyone wearing a backwards baseball cap can be taken seriously. He may be a maths genius right now... let's just wait and see if he really does something with his life. Go and cure Cancer kid... world hunger, homelessness, sort of a form of energy that does not require nuclear components so that we don't have another Japan on our hands.

First of all, the kid needs to take that backwards baseball cap off. There is no way anyone wearing a backwards baseball cap can be taken seriously. For heavens sakes..he is just a little boy. So by your standards he is supposed to run around in a three piece suit or one of those stupid looking uniforms that some schools make the kids wear? Why should a baseball cap make him or anyone less worthy of being listened to? Should we all stop talking to you if you were wearing a baseball cap? Time will only tell as to what the boy will do..I can only hope the parents will let him go his own path rat... [More]
