Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me that with all this going on, is the human race really that insecure about itself that some of us have to imitate aspects of our own cultural invention, or even other animals, in order to feel at ease with ourselves? I can understand wanting to imitate animals; they have aspects that we do not (but still... they USE those aspects because the HAVE to or they will die), but changing your appearance to imitate something that comes from popular culture? Well, if it makes you happy! It won't when it gets in the way of getting hired on a job. Seriously, no one will be inclined to hire someone who looks like a freak-show. Admittedly some of the mods look cool but in the real world people want to deal with people, not elves, tigers, Klingon wannabe's. This is not to say I wouldn't mind a doctor or whatever that had pointy ears or such but...the professional world doesn't look kindly on such mods and I can understand that too. Dur!!! This is really nothing new, Native Americans used to wear the skins of animals in ritual and in the hunt. Had all sorts of legends of shape shifters and magical animals. People in Mexico would strech out their lips and strech or compress their heads... People in Afirca did the same, lips, nose, ears, bumps under the skin, and enlongated necks. Hey no worries, and no harm done. I probably overreacted myself, but it's just one of my pet-hates. But back on track; as I said I can understand the want to imitate animals, certainly from a spiritual POV. And tatoos, piercings, sure, it's good to express yourself, but I can't understand why someone would want to change themselves into something their not. I just think that this is just silly. Ya see, I have a bump on my right ear that extends about a couple centimeters, resembling exactly what these people are trying to imitate, and mine grew NATURALLY FROM BIRTH. So...these people are just miserable morons in my opinion, because I was always made fun of for my ear.

Saw this on the news last week. Personally, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. It's barely noticeable.

Why in the world can't people just deal with what they are? I can see fixing something that's obviously misshapen but to purposely modify they body to look like a character in a movie is silly IMO. Sure, you'll get attention but is it the attention you really want? Will someone want to take you home to meet the parents? Are you going to get that promotion or even a job like that? Will you garner any respect at all?
